Exploring the coexistence of local biodiversity and farming practices, this local dialogue, organised by Csaba Borboly (RO/EPP) in his home constituency, focused on fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between farmers and environmentalists. The event showcased how sustainable farming methods can preserve biodiversity, while exploring means for farmers to coexist harmoniously with wildlife, protecting their livelihood.

The objectives of this local dialogue included:

  • fostering dialogue between farmers, environmentalists, wildlife experts and local authorities to find practical, mutually beneficial conservation strategies and to explore effective strategies for peaceful coexistence with large carnivores;
  • providing resources, tools, and knowledge for farmers to engage in conservation efforts without compromising their agricultural activities and in a way that considers the presence of large carnivores, ensuring both biodiversity protection and livelihood sustainability.

The event took place in the format of sessions with keynote speeches. Mr Borboly touched upon the conclusions of his opinion (CDR 3454/2023) - Promoting cultural policies in rural areas within the framework of development and territorial cohesion strategies and the 2030 Agenda, inviting also the shadow rapporteurs, including Mr. Robert Zeman (CZ/ECR), to the debate.
