​The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and its partners, the city of Gdańsk and International Cities of Refuge (ICORN), launched the 5th edition of the Mayor Paweł Adamowicz Award for courage and excellence in the promotion of freedom, solidarity and equality during the 166th CoR Plenary Session held on 14 and 15 May 2025.

With war once again raging in Europe and in the face of a wave of extremisms, the 5th edition of this important award is a celebration and recognition of those local representatives, civil society and ordinary citizens who demonstrate exceptional courage in promoting democracy, equality and human rights, despite the risks and obstacles they may face.  

Who can nominate?

  • 10 CoR members, alternate members or Members of the European Parliament together
  • Presidents of local or regional councils or Mayors
  • Representatives of international organisations
  • Representatives of national associations of local and regional authorities
  • Members of ICORN or its representative bodies

Self-nominations are not eligible. Should you wish to submit a nomination, please check the nomination criteria.

Nominations can be submitted through the dedicated form until 31 October 2025.
