High Level Conference on the prevention of radicalisation

The aim of the RAN High Level Conference on radicalisation (HLC) is to bring together the European Commission, Ministers, high-ranking officials of the EU Member States and practitioners, and to discuss ways forward to effectively tackle emerging challenges of radicalisation.

Since the start of RAN, the HLC has been organised four times, in 2018, 2016, 2014 and 2013. Each HLC witnessed both highly acclaimed experts providing thought-provoking keynote speeches as well as vivid debate among panellists and audience.

In 2019, the HLC will be different in character from its predecessors, with a programme enabling a more informal exchange of ideas and experience between practitioners, policy makers and High-level representatives. The event will focus on the viewing of "Le Jeune Ahmed", a 2019 movie by Belgian film directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, which premiered at Cannes in May this year. Following a viewing of the film, the directors will be interviewed and experts will discuss whether things could have gone differently. In break-out sessions, participants will address and discuss similar questions and will propose possible responses and recommendations.
