CoR representative in the Fit for Future Platform, Anne Karjalainen (PES/FI), has been appointed rapporteur for the Platform's opinion on the revision of Directive 2014/24/EU of 26 February 2014 on public procurement.

Directive 2014/24/EU on public procurement, in force since April 2014, sets out procurement procedures for public buyers through an EU-wide set of harmonised minimum rules to create a level playing field for all businesses across Europe and allow procurers to better use public procurement to support common societal goals. In May 2021, the Commission published a report on the implementation and best practices of national procurement policies in the internal market, identifying areas for improvement on various aspects of the Directive.

Already in 2019, RegHub has issued an in-depth implementation report on public procurement. In 2021, a RegHub consultation provided the evidence-base for the 2021 Fit for Future opinion on eProcurement (drafted by Mark Speich, EPP/DE). In 2023, RegHub will again conduct a stakeholder consultation, building on the previous consultations, feeding into this year's Platform's opinion. The adoption of the opinion is planned for Q4 2023.
