YEP Forum: young local leaders write their recommendations for the future of Europe

On 17 and 18 November 2021, the participants of the Young Elected Politicians (YEPs) Programme gathered in a two day forum to draft recommendations on key priorities for the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). The recommendations were presented to the CoR political assembly at the CoR December Plenary Session (1 and 2 December 2021) in view of the CoR contribution to the Conference on the Future of Europe and of the debate on the 2022 European Year of Youth.

YEPs worked on four main topics in online participatory and collaborative workshops, animated by expert facilitators and CoR members, with the support of CoR commissions:

  • Building resilient and inclusive communities
  • Digital transformation
  • A lively local democracy for a healthy European democracy
  • Jobs and education for young people
On 23 November, the participants gathered in a YEPs Plenary Session to officially endorse the recommendations.

Four CoR Members interacted with the participants and presented their work to enrich the debate in each workshop: Csaba Borboly (RO/EPP)President of Harghita County Council and CoR Rapporteur of the Opinion "Towards a socially fair implementation of the Green Deal"; Anne Karjalainen (FI/PES)Member of the Kerava City Council and CoR Rapporteur of the Opinion "Digital Europe for All: delivering smart and inclusive solutions on the ground"; François Decoster (FR/Renew Europe)Member of the Regional Council of Hauts-de-France and CoR Rapporteur of the Opinion "Erasmus for Local and Regional Representatives"; Karier Romy (LU/EPP)Member of Clervaux municipal council and CoR Rapporteur of the Opinion "Youth Employment Support: A Bridge to Jobs for the Next Generation Reinforcing the Youth Guarantee".

The YEPs Forum is organised in the framework of the YEPs' activities related to the Conference on the Future of Europe and of the CoR's wish to involve the young generation of local and regional authorities in the debate on how the future of Europe should look like.
