Online Stakeholder Consultation on Delivering the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is drafting a new Opinion on the SDGs, scheduled for adoption at the plenary session of 30 June 2021.

It has been over a year since the entry into function of the new European Commission College and the decision to implement the SDGs with the European Green Deal and their integration in the European Semester. The CoR is now calling on EU regions and cities to express their views on the work done so far, considering that the engagement on the SDGs at EU level has a real impact on action at local and regional level.

In the context of the pandemic and the ongoing need for a sustainable recovery, CoR Rapporteur Ricardo Rio (PT/EPP), Mayor of Braga, is committed to gathering feedback from local and regional authorities on their implementation of SDGs and to relay their message and need for support.

Therefore, the CoR will host a stakeholders consultation on Thursday 25 February from 10.30 until 12.00.

Speakers will include representatives from Eurocities, SDGWatch, CSR Europe and WWF.

Participants will be invited to share their comments and their experience on SDGs at local, regional, national and European level.

Background information:

The most recent documents published by the European Commission on SDGs – the Annual Sustainable Growth Strategy (European Semester) and the Staff Working Document on Delivering on the UN's SDGs by 2030 – will be the basis for the CoR Opinion. The rapporteur hopes to initiate a fruitful dialogue on SDGs between the CoR, the European Commission, and various stakeholders. In addition, the Opinion will provide recommendations to speed up the implementation of the SDGs at all levels, and deliver specific recommendations for the next edition of the Annual Sustainable Growth Strategy 2022. The Opinion will aim to better integrate the SDGs into the European Semester, and making a connection between the SDGs and the Recovery and Resilience Facility, for a truly sustainable recovery.

Registrations are open until Tuesday 23 February 17.30
