NATURE OF THE DUTIES AND PROFILE

The qualified temporary staff member will act as secretary-general of the Greens Group (type of post: head of unit or equivalent). They will be responsible, under the authority of the group's co-Presidents and its Bureau, for managing the Greens Group secretariat. The staff member will be in charge of communicating with the Greens' co-presidents, presidency, bureau and members, organising the Group's meetings and preparing the plenary sessions and their activities. The staff member will actively contribute to assisting rapporteurs and members in their political work by drafting position papers, analysis, speeches etc. in the various fields of activity of the CoR thematic commissions. The secretary-general will also be responsible for representing green perspectives and positions in discussions and negotiations with other political groups.  
 
More specifically, the secretary-general is responsible for: 

  • Planning, coordinating and supervising the work of the Greens Group secretariat, including human resources and financial aspects;
  • Ensuring good governance of the group’s budget;
  • Ensuring timely management of all activities of the Greens Group in compliance with the applicable rules and procedures;
  • Ensuring appropriate communication between members, staff and the CoR general secretariat for any questions relating to the Greens Group activities. 

​Travelling outside Belgium is part of the job. 
 
The ideal applicant should have strong management skills, great availability (for example frequency of meetings, irregular working hours), flexibility, sound judgement, a methodical approach, discretion and adaptability to varying workloads, as well as the capacity to lead a team in an international environment. They must, amongst other things, be capable of grasping wide-ranging problems and be able to respond rapidly to changing circumstances and to communicate effectively.
