130th CoR plenary session  

The members of the European Commitee of the Regions met on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th July in the 130th plenary session.

On the first day, representatives of national associations of local and regional authorities discussed with CoR members about the Future of Europe. Ms Juliane Bogner-Strauss, Federal Minister for women, families and youth, presented the priorities of the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

On the second day, Mr Miguel Arias Cañete, Commissioner for Climate Action & Energy, Mr Tomasz Chruszczow, High-Level Climate Champion of the Polish Ministry of the Environment, Mr Ashok Alexander Sridharan, President of ICLEI, and Mariusz Skiba, Deputy Mayor of Katowice, discussed with members about climate change.

Os líderes locais e regionais da UE reúnem-se em 4 e 5 de julho, em Bruxelas, para debater as questões que mais preocupam as regiões e os municípios. No primeiro dia da reunião plenária, os membros do Comité das Regiões Europeu (CR) reúnem-se com líderes de associações nacionais de órgãos de poder local e regional para elaborar propostas sobre formas de criar uma Europa inovadora, sustentável e inclusiva. No dia seguinte, e pouco após a UE ter aumentado as suas metas em matéria de energia e clima para 2030, terá lugar um debate sobre as ações a realizar pela UE para cumprir os compromissos assumidos no Acordo de Paris sobre Alterações Climáticas. O debate será liderado por Miguel Arias Cañete, comissário da UE responsável pela Ação Climática e Energia, juntamente com o Enviado Especial da Polónia para as Alterações Climáticas e os líderes das cidades de Bona (que acolheu as negociações em matéria de alterações climáticas da COP 23) e Katowice (anfitriã da COP 24). Serão também anunciados os vencedores da edição de 2019 do Prémio da Região Empreendedora Europeia, em reconhecimento das regiões com as estratégias empresariais mais eficazes na Europa. Os membros do CR irão igualmente centrar-se em duas das mais prementes questões do ponto de vista local e regional – a política regional e de migração da UE – e debater os planos da Áustria para o próximo semestre da sua Presidência da UE.
