19th ENVE Commission meeting and Conference on sustainable development  

​28 June 2018: Conference on sustainable development in the European Lake Regions

The conference will take place in Balatonfüred, Hungary, hosted by István Bóka (HU/EPP), mayor of Balatonfüred, co-organized by the CoR, the Municipality of Balatonfüred and the Lake Balaton Development Council with the support of the Prime Minister's Office of the Republic of Hungary.

The aim of the conference is to draw the attention of policy-makers to the importance of European lakes, thus their economic and natural potential that has to be preserved in a sustainable way. Further strategic goal of the event is to successfully combine political decision-making processes with solutions offered by financial resources, knowledge and technology.

Lakes play outstanding role in enhancing environmental diversity of Europe in the future. Therefore, it is considered necessary to promote the sustainable management of lakes, the coordination of tasks and the implementation of measures based on common concepts at the EU level. 
 

29 June 2018: 19th ENVE Commission Meeting

The ENVE Commission will debate and adopt the draft opinion of André Van de Nadort (NL/PES) on a European Strategy of Plastics, with presence of a representative of the Hungarian Ministry of Innovation and Technology.
Roby Biwer (LU/PES) will present, for adoption, the draft CoR opinion on the contribution of the EU cities and regions to the 14th Conference of Parties of the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD COP14). CBD COP14 will meet in November in Charm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

ENVE members will also debate on the future 8th Environmental Action Programme, on a working document presented by Cor Lamers (NL/EPP), ENVE Chair and rapporteur on this strategic topic, and on models of energy ownership and the role of local energy communities in energy transition in Europe, where Mariana Gâju (RO/PES) leads as rapporteur.

The ENVE Commission will appoint four rapporteurs who will be in charge of important opinions: The single-use plastics Directive, the LIFE Regulation, the proposal of Regulation on minimum requirements for water reuse, the space programme of the EU and the EU Agency for the Space Programme.
