The impact of COVID-19 on apprenticeships. The role of regions and cities.

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Commission - European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA), with the support of the German Council Presidency, and associate by EARLALL network and Basque Government, are pleased to invite you to their joint webinar on 29 September 2020 from 10.30 to 12.00 CEST. A panel will discuss how COVID-19 is affecting apprenticeships and VET, how Europeans are experiencing the current crisis, as well as the policy responses of Regions and Cities to the pandemic.

About

We live in a time of multi-dimensional transitions. The green and digital transitions, the demographic change and the COVID-19 are reshaping our way of life and work. The pandemic has seriously disrupted standard education and training activities, including VET across Europe. The situation was further aggravated by the fact that practical training – in form of work-based learning and apprenticeships – has been suspended in most sectors. The COVID-19 crisis has underlined the need for a paradigm-shift on skills and highlighted the urgency for the main avenues of reform actions in making apprenticeships more resilient and fit for the future challenges.

The panellists will analyse which sectors are most affected and explore the situation at the local and regional level. They will also reflect on possible solutions to mitigate apprenticeships disruption and to ensure recovery from the social-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A.

Please find the agenda here.

This webinar is part of series of three online roadmap events that lead to a high-level conference on apprenticeships 'The role of cities and regions in delivering high-quality apprenticeships' in spring 2021. Each roadmap event will focus on a specific theme and demonstrate different views. The next two online events will focus on the twin - green and digital - transition.

We look forward to welcoming you.
