14th NAT commission meeting and conference "Smart tourism: innovation, partnerships and sustainability"  
The 14th NAT commission meeting will take place on 1 June 2017 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
On the next day, a conference on Smart tourism: innovation, partnerships and sustainability is scheduled.
 
The following draft opinions will be adopted:
 
  • International ocean governance: an agenda for the future of our oceans (Rapporteur: Anthony Gerard BUCHANAN (UK/EA))
  • A European policy on the seismic requalification of buildings and infrastructure (Rapporteur: Vito SANTARSIERO (IT/PES))
  • Future of the CAP after 2020 (Rapporteur: Guillaume CROS (FR/PES))
The NAT commission will discuss the working document on 
 
Action Plan for a Maritime Strategy in the Atlantic area Delivering smart, sustainable and inclusive growth (Rapporteur: Jerry LUNDY (IE/ALDE)

Smart tourism: innovation, partnerships and sustainability

 
Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors in the EU, generating growth, providing job places and stimulating local and regional development. Despite the economic crisis and recent acts of terrorism, European destinations managed to retain their position globally and keep exuding irresistible charm, attracting over half a billion European and international visitors last year. Nonetheless, the industry is faced with a number of , including competition from emerging destinations globally. Looking at these challenges together and reflecting how public authorities can drive sustainable and innovative tourism growth forward – these are the key objectives of the seminar. Bringing together almost one hundred European regions' presidents, Mayors, local, provincial and regional councillors, this seminar will provide an arena for policy evaluation, exchange and inspiration. Aside the European Committee of the Regions members, the representatives of the United Nations' World Tourism Organization, European Parliament and Commission, of academia and of business community will share their experience and advice on how to nurture smart tourism across our destinations and how to keep them on the very top of travellers' wish lists.
