Knowledge Exchange Platform meets in Bulgaria  

On 17 and 18 September 2019, the region and city of Gabrovo will host an international conference on "Industry 4.0 and the Next Programming Period". This initiative is carried out for the first time in Bulgaria within the framework of the European Union inter-institutional Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP) and is co-organized by the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission (DG RTD) and the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). High-level speakers at the event will be Tomislav Donchev - Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria and Markku Markkula - First Vice-President of the European Committee of the Regions.

The first panel will present the Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP), an initiative developed jointly by the European Committee of the Regions and the Commission's Research and Innovation DG. It is aimed at presenting new research and innovation solutions, innovative products and best practices to meet the current challenges facing regions and cities in Europe.

Representatives of the Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, the Joint Research Center at the European Commission, the European Association of Regional Development Agencies (EURADA) and the Fund of Funds in Bulgaria will discuss the place of Industry 4.0 in the new programming period.

The second panel on "Companies of the Future and the Regional Innovation Ecosystem" will be attended by representatives of the Central Coordination Unit at the Council of Ministers of Bulgaria, the Institute for Market Economy, Thrace Economic Zone, Enterprise Europe Network, Mechatronica AD and Gabrovo Municipality. Helsinki-Uusimaa (Finland), rewarded as the most innovative region in Europe in 2019, will have a presentation.

The event will conclude with a dialogue with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Tomislav Donchev. He will also join the final discussion of the event, along with the First Vice-President of the European Committee of the Regions, Markku Markkula.

The Industry 4.0 Partner Seminar aims to raise awareness and promote the exchange of information and best practices between the European Commission and EU regions.
