The European Court of Auditors' (ECA) Special Report on public consultations recommends a better engagement of organisations such as the Committee of the Regions by the European Commission to help improve the outreach of the Commission's public consultations and the dissemination of information.
In its reply, the Commission strongly commits to 'step up further its collaboration' and 'engage more prominently with stakeholders and increase outreach, notably with national, local and regional authorities'. Moreover, it confirms its 'close relations with the two consultative committees', referring to the Committee of Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee (Recommendations 2 and 3).
We welcome that the Commission reaffirms its earlier messages that it is keen on further strengthening its policy making with input from the local and regional level. RegHub can play a part in this effort through efficient channelling of technical feedback from stakeholders on the imple-mentation of European legislation on the ground. This will help to improve the evidence base of the EU's policies.
