Eiropas vietējā un reģionālā līmeņa vadītāji aicina atjaunot Apvienoto Nāciju Organizācijas ilgtspējīgas attīstības mērķu (IAM) prioritāro vietu Eiropas Savienības darba kārtībā, aicinot ES iestādes un dalībvalstis nodrošināt to īstenošanu līdz 2030. gadam. Three vice-presidents of the European Commission will address the European Committee of the Regions on 30 June, discussing efforts to strengthen and deepen democracy, build inclusive societies, and improve EU legislation. Vice-President Věra Jourová will present the European Democracy Action Plan to empower citizens and build more resilient democracies, Vice-President Margaritis Schinas will highlight the role of education and culture in protecting the European way of life, while Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič will set out the European Commission's work programme as well as the Commission's efforts to embed strategic foresight into its work. Members of the CoR will also discuss the Conference on the Future of Europe with the three MEPs leading the work of the European Parliament in the EU-wide consultation.

Fostering political engagement and increasing citizens' awareness of the benefits of the transition towards climate-neutrality are two key priorities of the European Committee of the Regions' (CoR) Green Deal Going Local working group. The CoR calls on local and regional leaders to join the new network of Climate Pact Ambassadors and take part in a structured system to collect cities' and regions' climate commitments ahead of the UN's COP26 climate talks in Glasgow and the UN's COP15 biodiversity summit in Kunming, China. New actions complement ongoing efforts to accelerate the rollout of the European Green Deal in every territory as Member States are submitting their COVID-19 recovery plans.

Pēc Eiropas Komisijas iniciatīvas Pilsētas mēru pakts darbību uzsāka 2008. gadā ar mērķi atbalstīt pilsētas un reģionus Eiropas Savienības 2020. gada klimata un enerģētikas mērķu sasniegšanā. Pilsētas mēru pakta loma turpmāk būs spēcīgāka, jo tas savas klimata saistības pielīdzina ES mērķim līdz 2050. gadam panākt klimatneitralitāti un veido jaunu Nacionālo vēstnieku palātu , lai veicinātu šā pakta darbības izvēršanu visās dalībvalstīs. Pilsētas mēru paktam ir vairāk nekā 10 000 parakstītāju, kuri sniedz tehnisko atbalstu un finansiālas konsultācijas tādu enerģētikas un klimata plānu izstrādei, kuru īstenošanas rezultātā temperatūras pieaugums pasaulē nepārsniegtu 1,5 ℃ , kas ir visaugstāk uzstādītais Parīzes klimata nolīguma mērķis .
