The CoR is hosting a conference on 21 March 2023, as a timely response to the current revision of the EU’s Waste Framework Directive and the Industrial Emissions Directive. The conference, entitled "Mixed Waste Sorting: the next frontier for managing residual waste for maximum circularity", aims to bring together regional and national governments, mixed waste sorting operators, recyclers, experts, and technology providers from countries across Europe to share their expertise on the introduction of MWS as an additional tool for the recovery and re-circulation of Europe’s valuable resources.  

On 27 March 2023, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is hosting the launch of the 2022 edition of the EU Regional Competitiveness Index. This is the fifth time the European Commission publishes the EU Regional Competitiveness Index, a composite indicator aiming at measuring the ability of a region to offer an attractive environment for firms and residents to live and work. Since its first edition, back in 2010, the RCI has grown into a much-cited and widely used index. Given the high interest in the index, the publication of the report will be accompanied by a set of interactive online tools. 

​The government of Land Schleswig-Holstein will hold its cabinet meeting in Brussels on 28 March 2023. The meeting will focus on​ inflation reduction and renewable energies. 

On 28 March 2023, the Cities and Regions for Integration of Migrants network of the European Committee of the Regions will hold a conference entitled "Empowering regions and cities in migrant integration governance." Organised in cooperation with the Assembly of European Regions (AER) and Eurac Research and Vrije Universiteit Brussel - Brussels Interdisciplinary Research centre on Migration and Minorities (BIRMM), the conference will focus on the multi-level coordination and intercultural approach to the integration of migrants and refugees in cities and regions across Europe. 

IncluCities, the flagship project on migration of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) will organise a Final Conference on 29 March 2023. The event will touch upon migrant integration in middle-sized cities as a central point of the IncluCities. 

The CoR-UK Contact Group will hold its 8th Meeting on March 29 2023 in Brussels. Members of the European Committee of the Regions and representatives of local and regional authorities from the United Kingdom will meet to discuss recent political developments in EU-UK relations, as well as best practices and scope for cooperation between EU and UK local and regional authorities in receiving refugees from Ukraine 

CoR National ambassadors of the Covenant of Mayors are invited to join the Conference of Covenant of Mayor Europe 2023 , where local governments will exchange with Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans and EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson on how EU institutions and national authorities can further support local and regional efforts to reduce energy consumption and dependency on Russian gas in the years to come. 

The 17th NAT commission meeting will take place on Thursday 30 March 2023 at the European Committee of the Regions, Rue Belliard 99-101, Brussels room JDE 52. This meeting will be fully on-site. The public can follow the meeting in the listening room JDE53. For security reasons you need contact the NAT secretariat at the latest on the 28 March 2023 if you wish to participate in person. On 30 March 2023, the ECON Commission of the European Committee of the Regions will hold a seminar on Reducing EU regulatory burdens on SMEs, organised in cooperation with the EU Institutions and European business associations. 

The European Committee of the Regions has supported the Covenant of Mayors for climate and energy initiative since its creation in 2008. With a view to enhancing the work at national level, a Second Chamber of the Covenant Political Board was created, composed of 27 Members of the European Committee of the Regions acting as National Ambassadors of the Covenant Initiative in all EU Member States. 

The European Cross-Border Citizen's Alliance (CoR, AEBR, MOT and CESCI) is organising a conference on "Living in Border Regions – Tackling the challenges" that will take place in the European Committee of the Regions on 17 April 2023 in the afternoon. 

The 17th SEDEC commission meeting will take place on 20 April 2023 from 10.30 to 13.00 in Tampere, Finland, at the Paja congress center (Hotel Torni). 

The 17th ENVE commission meeting will take place fully in person on Wednesday, 10 May from 11:00 to 17:00 at the European Committee of the Regions, Rue Belliard 99-101, Brussels. 

​Urban nature has the potential to provide many benefits for society and the environment. As an example, urban green and blue can reduce the negative impacts of heat waves and heavy rainfall events. This makes the creation and protection of urban spaces for nature indispensable in the context of the climate and biodiversity crises.
