Vasco Alves Cordeiro 

Eiropas Reģionu komitejas priekšsēdētājs 

Par Eiropas Reģionu komitejas priekšsēdētāju Vasco Alves Cordeiro ir ievēlēts 2022. gada jūnijā.

Viņš ir dzimis 1973. gada 28. martā vienā no Eiropas Savienības tālākajiem reģioniem – Azoru salās, kas ir autonoms reģions Portugālē. Vasco Alves Cordeiro ir jurists, precējies un divu bērnu tēvs. Viņš ir Azoru salu autonomā reģiona leģislatīvās asamblejas loceklis.

Koimbras Universitātē viņš ir pabeidzis juridisko fakultāti un pēcdiploma studijas turpinājis Lisabonas Universitātē un Azoru salu Universitātē. Profesionālo karjeru uzsācis 1995. gadā kā jurists Azoru salās un šajā jomā strādājis līdz 2003. gadam.

1996. gadā viņš tika pirmo reizi ievēlēts par Azoru salu autonomā reģiona leģislatīvās asamblejas locekli no sociālistiskās partijas un no 2000. gada līdz 2003. gadam vadīja sociālistu grupu reģionālajā parlamentā.

Pēc tam viņš ir ieņēmis vairākus amatus reģionālajās izpildstruktūrās, tostarp bijis reģionālais ekonomikas sekretārs (2008–2012), reģionālais prezidija sekretārs (2004–2008), atbildējis par Eiropas jautājumiem un ārlietām, kā arī bijis reģionālais lauksaimniecības un zivsaimniecības sekretārs (2003–2004).

2012. gadā viņš tika pirmo reizi ievēlēts par Azoru salu reģionālās valdības priekšsēdētāju. Šajā amatā viņš tika pārvēlēts 2016. gadā, un, pildīdams šī amata pienākumus, viņš kā Eiropas Reģionu komitejas loceklis pārstāvēja šo reģionu Eiropas un starptautiskā līmenī, kā arī tādās organizācijās kā Eiropas Perifēro piejūras reģionu konference, ES Tālāko reģionu priekšsēdētāju konference, Eiropas Reģionu asambleja, R20 – “Reģioni par klimata aizsardzību”, un veidoja attiecības ar tām valstīm, kurās dzīvo Azoru salu kopienas, tostarp ar ASV, Kanādu un Brazīliju. No 2014. gada līdz 2020. gadam viņš bija Eiropas Perifēro piejūras reģionu konferences priekšsēdētājs.

Kopš 2013. gada janvāra V. A. Cordeiro ir Azoru salu sociālistiskās partijas priekšsēdētājs. Vasco Alves Cordeiro ir dziļi pārliecināts, ka steidzami ir jāpievērš uzmanība tādam jautājumam kā pilsoņu atbalsts Eiropas projektam. Viņš ir arī apņēmies stiprināt sociālo, ekonomisko un teritoriālo kohēziju Eiropas Savienībā un vēlas tādu Eiropas politiku, kas tiešām atbilstu pilsoņu interesēm un mērķiem, un reģionu lomu, kas tiktu pacelta tādā līmenī, lai tie kļūtu par Savienības iekšējās demokrātijas un sociālā progresa sargātājiem.

Viņš ir Eiropas Reģionu komitejas loceklis kopš 2013. gada, bet pirms tam – no 2004. gada līdz 2008. gadam bijis locekļa aizstājējs, savukārt no 2020. gada februāra līdz 2022. gada jūnijam viņš bija iestādes priekšsēdētāja pirmais vietnieks.
