The CoR is drafting the Opinion "LRAs accelerating the implementation of the EU Pollinators Initiative" by rapporteur Frida NILSSON (SE/RE) to accelerate the implementation of the existing EU Pollinators Initiative, while contributing to its potential review in the coming months.
The main measure implemented to handle the decline of pollinators in the EU is the EU Pollinators Initiative, which was published in June 2018 and set targets for 2020. The initiative focuses on wild pollinators, through a series of proposals on how existing tools can be improved and new ones expanded. The focus is on integrating protection measures for pollinators into other EU policies and existing programmes.
Despite the EU's pollinator initiative, which was developed to address the problems set out above, the negative trend concerning wild pollinators continues. The CoR is therefore adopting an Opinion to accelerate the implementation of the existing EU initiative. It wishes also to contribute to the review of the Initiative foreseen in the coming months.
Participants to the stakeholder consultation will have the opportunity to debate with the rapporteur and guest speakers on the questions included in the attached agenda.
