Eurostat’s 2021 Regional Yearbook

Which EU region has the highest exposure to air pollution? Where has utilised agricultural area the highest share of organic farming? Which region has the highest median age of mothers at childbirth?

National figures alone are not sufficient to give the full picture of the territorial and socio-economic developments within the EU. Comparing data at a regional level is therefore often more meaningful and helps to understand the diversity across the EU. In particular, the COVID-19 outbreak increased the demand for subnational data to support the policy response at regional and local level.

The Eurostat regional yearbook provides a statistical overview of the regions of the EU across a broad range of subjects. This year’s edition has been published on 9 September 2021.

The impact of the pandemic is already visible in this 2021 edition of the Eurostat regional yearbook. Initial results for 2020 for some indicators illustrate the impact — at a regional level — for topics such as mortality, education, the labour market and use of the internet.

Join us on 14 September at 12:15, along with our guests from Eurostat - Márta Nagy-Rothengass, Bianka Fohgrub, Oliver Heiden - as we explore the highlights of this year’s Eurostat regional yearbook and how you can make use of regional data for further analyses or policy application.
