The 10th annual meeting of the Conference of Regional and Local Authorities for the Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP) will take place on 14 December 2021. Under the co-chairmanship of Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Governor of the Central Macedonia Region (Greece) and President of the European Committee of the Regions, and Constantin Cojocaru, Mayor of Edinet and Vice-President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Moldova (CALM), CORLEAP meets the day before the 6th Eastern Partnership Summit, held in Brussels.
CORLEAP is honoured to welcome Maia Sandu, the President of the Republic of Moldova, as a key speaker in the discussion on the role of local and regional authorities in the Eastern Partnership and the way ahead.
The first session, entitled "The renewed Eastern Partnership agenda: LRAs' contribution to the EaP Summit", will see CORLEAP members engage in a debate with the following speakers: Leendert Verbeek, President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe; Maka Botchorishvili (Georgia), Co-President of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly; Siegfried Mureșan, Member of the European Parliament (RO/EPP) and Euronest Parliamentary Assembly; Michael Siebert, Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional cooperation and OSCE, European External Action Service and Nino Rukhadze, Member of Tbilisi City Assembly (Georgia) and PLATFORMA.
The second session will focus on "LRAs driving the recovery strategies and the green agenda in the EaP" and will welcome the following guests: Lawrence Meredith, Director for Neighbourhood East and Institution Building, DG NEAR, European Commission; Ricardo Rio, Mayor of Braga (Portugal), CoR ECON rapporteur for the SDGs; Serhiy Nadal, Mayor of Ternopil (Ukraine); Guga Kupradze (Georgia) and Valeria Korcheva (Ukraine), winners of the EU4Energy Week EaP university competition.
The 10th annual meeting will also discuss and endorse the report on fiscal decentralisation by the CORLEAP rapporteur Anar Ibrahimov (Azerbaijan) and adopt its 2021-2024 CORLEAP Action Plan.
CORLEAP observers and key partners will also have the opportunity to contribute to the discussions.
