Participation in the Active School Communities meeting
The school setting is fundamental to establishing positive experiences of physical activity engagement early in life. But the prevalence of inactivity is increasing among children with reductions in physical education hours and competing sedentary activities during and outside the school day. Creating positive change in schools and the broader community setting demands support from a number of actors across sectors as well as a holistic approach.
The Active School Communities project, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, responds to this task: national sport organisations from 6 European countries are facilitating the development of partnerships between community sport organisations and schools, with the view to offering alternative ways of fitting physical activity into the school day.
