The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is preparing an Opinion on the Revision of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive, led by rapporteur Åsa ÅGREN WIKSTRÖM (SE/EPP), Member of Västerbotten County Council of Sweden, and member of the Commission for the Environment, Climate change and Energy (ENVE) of the CoR. The opinion covers the European Commission proposal for a Directive concerning urban wastewater treatment (recast).
This stakeholder consultation will provide the rapporteur with useful information to support the preparation of the draft opinion. The rapporteur invites different actors to reflect on the proposed Directive, its possible challenges, consequences, and to explore ways to enhance it.
The rapporteur has prepared a working document discussed in the ENVE commission meeting on 14 February 2023. Final discussion and approval of the draft opinion is scheduled for the ENVE commission meeting on 10 May. The opinion is expected to be approved at the CoR plenary session of 5-6 July 2023.
