As we are approaching the end of the EU mandate and are close to the European elections, the time is right to reflect on the Green Deal's implementation and look into what could and should be improved in the future. Also, this year, the EU finalises the Fit for 55 package. In 2024, the European Commission will need to revise the Energy Union and Climate Change Governance Regulation, which was intended to be the overarching governance mechanism of the Energy Union under the Clean Energy Package, before the Green Deal was published. Regions and cities play an essential role in the implementation of the Green Deal. The success of this reflection will therefore depend on effective involvement of all levels of government.

In 2023, RegHub is therefore conducting a consultation on "The future of the Green Deal: taking stock and looking ahead", which aims to gather the experiences of local and regional authorities in implementing Green Deal measures. The results of this consultation will amongst others feed into the CoR's work on the revision of the Governance of the Energy Union and Climate Action Regulation and will inform the CoR 2023 Annual Report of the State of Regions and Cities.
