In the context of the
25th anniversary of
the Barcelona process, on behalf of mayors and representatives of regions
all around the Mediterranean, he renewed their commitment to work on the ground
towards the shared objectives of stability, development and prosperity for a
truly sustainable development in our common Euro-Mediterranean region in line
with the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals. To build resilience, he
continued, peer-to-peer cooperation between the North and the South of the
Mediterranean was instrumental.
ARLEM was making
cooperation happen across the areas of local economic development, democratic
governance and climate change. The ARLEM co-chair called for fairness,
solidarity and dialogue. He closed in calling upon the UfM to step up efforts
to bring peace to the Middle East.
In the concluding
statement, the UfM co-presidency encouraged ARLEM to further play its role
to amplify the voices of local and regional authorities and to promote the
territorialisation of the Euro-Mediterranean sectoral policie
