Toghadh Vasco Alves Cordeiro ina Uachtarán ar Choiste Eorpach na Réigiún i mí an Mheithimh 2022.

Rugadh Vasco Alves Cordeiro sna hAsóir, ar réigiún féinrialaitheach de chuid na Portaingéile é agus ceann de na réigiúin is forimeallaí san Aontas, ar an 28 Márta 1973. Is dlíodóir é atá pósta agus beirt pháistí aige, agus tá sé ina chomhalta de Thionól Reachtach Réigiún Féinrialaitheach na nAsór.

Thosaigh Vasco Alves Cordeiro, a bhfuil céim sa dlí aige ó Ollscoil Coimbra agus iarchéim sa dlí réigiúnach aige ó Ollscoil Liospóin agus Ollscoil na nAsór, a shlí bheatha ghairmiúil mar dhlíodóir sna hAsóir in1995, áit a raibh sé ag dlíodóireacht go dtí 2003.

In 1996, toghadh é den chéad uair mar chomhalta de Thionól Reachtach Réigiún Féinrialaitheach na nAsór don Pháirtí Sóisialach, agus bhí an grúpa sóisialach sa pharlaimint réigiúnach faoina stiúir idir 2000 agus 2003.

Ó shin i leith, bhí roinnt post aige san fheidhmeannas réigiúnach, lena n-áirítear mar Rúnaí Réigiúnach Geilleagair (2008-2012), mar Rúnaí Réigiúnach na hUachtaránachta (2004-2008) a bhí freagrach as Gnóthaí Eorpacha agus Eachtracha, agus mar Rúnaí Réigiúnach Talmhaíochta agus Iascaigh (2003-2004).

In 2012, toghadh é ina Uachtarán ar Rialtas Réigiúnach na nAsór den chéad uair, post dár atoghadh é in 2016, agus, sa cháil sin, rinne sé ionadaíocht ar an réigiún ar an leibhéal Eorpach agus ar an leibhéal idirnáisiúnta mar chomhalta de Choiste Eorpach na Réigiún, agus d’eagraíochtaí amhail Comhdháil Réigiúin Mhuirí Fhorimeallacha na hEorpa, Comhdháil Uachtaráin na Réigiún is Forimeallaí san Aontas Eorpach, Tionól Réigiúin na hEorpa, R20 – Réigiúin atá ag Gníomhú ar son na hAeráide, agus sa chreat le haghaidh an chaidrimh le tíortha a bhfuil pobail na nAsór á n-óstáil acu, lena n-áirítear SAM, Ceanada agus an Bhrasaíl. Ó 2014 go 2020, bhí sé ina Uachtarán ar Chomhdháil Réigiúin Mhuirí Fhorimeallacha na hEorpa.

Tá Cordeiro ina cheannaire ar Pháirtí Sóisialach na nAsór ó mhí Eanáir 2013 i leith.Tacaíonn Vasco Alves Cordeiro go láidir leis an ngéarghá atá le dul i ngleic le saincheist thacaíocht na saoránach don tionscadal Eorpach, agus tá sé tiomanta freisin don chomhtháthú sóisialta, eacnamaíoch agus críochach a neartú san Aontas Eorpach, é ag tacú le beartais Eorpacha a chomhfhreagraíonn go hiarbhír do leasanna agus d’uaillmhianta na saoránach agus a neartaíonn ról na réigiún mar sciath chosanta dhaonlathas inmheánach an Aontais agus dá dhul chun cinn eacnamaíoch agus sóisialta.

Tá Cordeiro ina chomhalta de Choiste Eorpach na Réigiún ó 2013 i leith agus roimhe sin, bhí sé ina chomhalta malartach ó 2004 go 2008 agus ba eisean an Chéad Leas-Uachtarán ar an institiúid ó Fheabhra 2020 go Meitheamh 2022.
