How to design green cities with citizens - Insights from BiodiverCities

Since 2020, ten cities across Europe have been engaging citizens in support of urban biodiversity. Within the BiodiverCities project, local inhabitants have co-created, for example, urban gardens and insect hotels, jointly re-imagined empty green lawns and unused spaces, co-designed strategic plans and new visions for their cities and neighbourhoods.

Overall, more than 500 citizens have been engaged. Local institutions have also been involved, leading to actual institutional innovation and greater policy impact.

Now, with the project approaching its end, it is time to take stock, collect lessons learnt and address the challenges of co-creation as a way of working with citizens and within public institutions.

Join us on September 8, 2022 (from 9 am to 1.15 pm), for the final Policy Event. The event is kindly hosted by the European Committee of the Regions (Batiment Jacques Delors, Rue Belliard 99/101, 1040 Brussels).

The event will be a snapshot of results and debate about policy and other enabling conditions to ensure that citizens are engaged in the co-creation of urban green infrastructure. The programme includes a number of conversations and storytelling from representatives and practitioners of the ten cities involved in the project, as well as interventions by EU and local policymakers.

Please find here the agenda of the meeting.

Registration for in-person participation is now closed. You can follow the event remotely as it will be web streamed here.
