Statement on the death of David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament

Apostolos Tzitzikostas, President of the European Committee of the Regions, said on 11 January:

I am deeply saddened by the sudden death of David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament. The European Union and Italy cry for the passing away of a true European.

As passionate journalist, convinced politician and committed President of the EP, he always upheld our common European democratic values. My sincere thoughts are with his family.
