Programme

EuroPCom was the key annual meeting for experts in the field of public communication. The conference was jointly organised by the EU institutions on 8-9 November 2021 and was a fully digital event.

In a packed one-and-a-half day programme, communication experts from different sectors helped EuroPCom community members reflect on the major issues of relevance to the three key conference themes: Democracy, Green Deal and Digitalisation.

Registered participants had the opportunity to enjoy The EuroPCom marketplace – where online "stands" displayed a wide range of exciting projects and stories by institutions and organisations with whom it was possible to share ideas and to network.

    Democracy:
Local, regional & national governments need to examine the ways in which they communicate and safeguard the state of democracy across the EU. Drastic changes introduced in our everyday life for the past 18 months have translated into equally significant shifts in information dissemination and debates over how to regulate and respond to new media landscapes. Which lessons can be learnt and what should post-pandemic communication look like? What is the future of society-wide public information campaigns?
  • Digital theme logo
    Green Deal:
The European Green Deal entails very specific communication work on all its aspects and issues. The EU should therefore remain cautious not to depart from a holistic endeavour if it wants to keep citizens, regions and nations actively engaged. Given that reducing climate change requires significant behaviour change, how can communicators help shift hearts and minds? Do climate goal shortfalls of the last decade suggest a total rethink is needed for communicating the Green Deal of the coming decade? What has the pandemic taught us about the nature of change?
  • Citizens theme logo
    Digitalisation:

Digitalisation has profoundly transformed the ways in which we communicate. How has digitalisation already changed professional and personal communication practices? What are the trends in human interaction and what can we expect in the future? What are the risks and opportunities of digital communication and what does the shift towards digital space leave behind? What are the post-pandemic trends in digital communication and how are the main actors in the field adapting?

CIRCOM training

The saying goes "To defeat your enemy, you must know them". One can feel overwhelmed with the spread of fake news, troll farms, suspicions of foreign influence on domestic elections. Authors of fake news are little known, even though concurrent efforts are made to find them. But they can be tracked down, using open source intelligence (OSINT) techniques. In this workshop for journalists, organised by the European association of regional public TVs CIRCOM with the CoR, participants will discover how to take advantage of their journalistic skills and boost them thanks to clever tools and techniques to lead investigations online.

Workshop reserved for journalists.
