CoR Digital Masterclass: Social media in times of war – Online battlefield of Russia's war against Ukraine

Propaganda has always been a part of war, but until recently, the public was merely a passive receiver. Now, on social media, warring parties try to instumentalise users to play an active role in spreading their propaganda. How can we avoid that and act more responsibly?

Join this year's first webinar organised under the umbrella of CoR Digital Masterclasses. The session will bring together experts to exchange views and assess online communication practices employed during war times.

Our two speakers will be Andrew Stroehlein, European Media Director, Human Rights Watch, and Martyna Bildziukiewicz, Head of East Stratcom Task Force, European External Action Service.

Background: In 2020, the CoR social media team introduced the Digital Masterclasses project, aiming to strengthen the use of digital communications in local and regional politicians' work. When physical meetings relocated online, the high-level talks and workshops were made available also to a wider public in the form of webinars. Two years later, the project was relaunched while keeping its primary goal: Provide CoR members with access to digital skills and motivate them to connect and engage with their citizens online. Our webinars remain open to all professionals and fans of digital communication.

All registered participants will afterwards receive the recording of the webinar.
