The History of the Committee of the Regions
This reciprocal relationship between local and regional stakeholders on the one hand,
and the European Union (EU) on the other, which is essential for European integration,
seems self-evident today. The creation of the Committee of the Regions 25 years ago was
an expression of this willingness to involve local and regional authorities and to enable them
to represent their interests in the EU’s institutional architecture.
