El Comité Europeo de las Regiones (CDR) aprobó sus propuestas sobre la adaptación al cambio climático en el Dictamen «Forjar una Europa resiliente al cambio climático – La nueva estrategia de adaptación al cambio climático de la UE» . El CDR pide políticas basadas en la demanda, incentivos de mercado, que la huella de carbono y la impronta positiva de carbono se utilicen como criterios para la contratación pública y que se acelere la cooperación con el mundo académico y las empresas a fin de impulsar la innovación a gran escala, los productos sostenibles, los servicios y las soluciones basadas en la naturaleza. A pesar de que se calcula que las emisiones netas de gases de efecto invernadero (GEI) en 2020 descenderán un 35 % respecto de los niveles de 1990, el repunte económico tras la COVID-19 podría volver a causar un aumento de las emisiones. En torno a un 40 % de las ciudades de la UE con más de 150 000 habitantes han aprobado planes de adaptación al cambio climático.

Three vice-presidents of the European Commission will address the European Committee of the Regions on 30 June, discussing efforts to strengthen and deepen democracy, build inclusive societies, and improve EU legislation. Vice-President Věra Jourová will present the European Democracy Action Plan to empower citizens and build more resilient democracies, Vice-President Margaritis Schinas will highlight the role of education and culture in protecting the European way of life, while Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič will set out the European Commission's work programme as well as the Commission's efforts to embed strategic foresight into its work. Members of the CoR will also discuss the Conference on the Future of Europe with the three MEPs leading the work of the European Parliament in the EU-wide consultation.

Baseline survey on how cities, towns and rural areas across Europe approach digital innovation launched today

The Commission for the Environment, Climate change and Energy (ENVE) of the European Committee of the Regions debated on the Conference on the Future of Europe, the 2022 European Commission's Work Programme and the 'Fit for 55 package' whose purpose is to update the EU’s 2030 climate and energy laws to reflect the 55% net emissions reduction target that the EU set for 2030. Other topics included the development of a trans-European energy infrastructure, the new EU strategy on climate adaptation and the mainstreaming of gender equality under the European Green Deal. ​
