19th ECON Commission Meeting  

The 19th meeting of the CoR Commission for Economic Policy (ECON) took place in Bucharest, Romania, on 21 June 2018, hosted by CoR and ECON Member Robert Sorin Negoiţă, Mayor of the District 3 of Bucharest Municipality. here are the meeting documents.

The ECON Commission adopted a draft Opinion on the Fair Taxation Package (Rapporteur: Paul Lindquist SV/EPP). It also held exchanges of views on the EC's Communication on an action plan on financing sustainable growth (Rapporteur: Tilo Gundlack, DE/PES) and on the EC's proposal for the Taxation of the Digital Economy (Rapporteur: Jean-Luc Vanraes, BE/ALDE).

ECON also appointed rapporteurs for four opinions related to the EC's legislative proposals for the new MFF 2021-2027: Olga Zrihen (BE/PES) on the Reform Support Programme and the European Investment Stabilisation Function, Konstantinos Agorastos (EL/EPP) on InvestEU, Deirdre Forde (IE/EPP) on the Single Market Programme and Ximo Puig I Ferrer (ES/PES) on the Proposal for a Regulation on the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF).

The ECON meeting was followed by a Conference on "Boosting the competitiveness of SMEs through digitalization – The challenges for local and regional authorities", organized by the CoR in cooperation with the Association of Romanian Municipalities (AMR).

After the ECON meeting, Members could take part in the two very interesting study visits at the Extreme Light Infrastructure Nuclear Physics and the University Politehnica of Bucharest, which made them aware of the robust investment in frontier technologies Romania is currently engaging in.

On 21 June, a dinner with the charming traditional Romanian dance and music, as well as the visit to the Parliament on 22 June, completed a very fruitful and enjoyable programme.
