CoR and DG CONNECT join forces in discussing "Digital Europe for all" at the Digital Assembly

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) believes that it is important to mobilise ideas and recommendations on the needs of local and regional authorities for implementing an inclusive, cooperative and efficient digital Europe for all in the coming years. Therefore the CoR President Karl-Heinz Lambertz and the First Vice-President Markku Markkula are preparing proposals for future European Union policies in the area of the Digital Single Market.

The "Digital Europe for all" proposals, which are developed together with a broad range of stakeholders and with the DG CONNECT of the European Commission, focus on scaling up successful digital solutions to address a variety of societal challenges in areas such as sustainable development and climate change, demographic issues and public services. Moreover, EU should facilitate the sharing of best practice and applications, and more work should be done to improve measuring of the progress in applying digital solutions at local and regional level.

The EU Digital Assembly in Bucharest, Romania, on 13-14 June will be a milestone of this inclusive process aiming to promote local and regional needs and interests in the future digital policies of the EU. The Digital Assembly 2019  will be hosted by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) and the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It will feature a number of high level speakers and participants representing local and regional authorities and encompassing EU digital community.

During the Digital Assembly, the CoR and the European Commission, together with Eurocities and other stakeholders, will organise a workshop to discuss how we best can scale up, share/transfer and measure digital innovation in cities and communities, with an aim to boost local economy, services and democracy. This will be followed by the"Digital 4 Communities" plenary session where local, national and EU level authorities and stakeholders will present the latest achievements and progress regarding benefits obtained through digital innovation.

To receive an invitation, participants are requested to contact the DG CONNECT of the European Commission by using the e-mail address CNECT-DA-2019@ec.europa.eu . The organisers will then issue an invitation with a link to register to the event.
