Launch of the EU Organic Awards
On 23 September 2022 the European Committee of the Regions will award prizes for the best organic region, best organic city, and best bio-district on EU Organic Day.

The European organic farming awards are jointly organised by the European Committee of the Regions, the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee, COPA-COGECA and IFOAM Organics Europe. The awards consist of seven categories and eight prizes. They aim to promote different actors throughout the organic value chain who have developed an excellent, innovative, sustainable and inspiring project, producing real added value for organic production and consumption.

Uroš Brežan (SI/Greens), Mayor of Tolmin and European Committee of the Regions rapporteur on the EU action plan for organic farming emphasised that the European Committee of the Regions supports the EU's target set out in the Farm to Fork strategy of 25% of agricultural land devoted to organic farming by 2030. He also stated that for local and regional authorities, there are many advantages to organic production over conventional production. Specifically, developing organic production could prove a major contribution to combating desertification in rural areas.
