In light of the current Covid-19 situation, the meeting will be held in hybrid mode. You can follow the meeting using the following link: https://broadcaster.interactio.eu/join/iin2-52uc-7dyv

The speakers include

  • Čedomir Rakić, State Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government of Serbia
  • Mateja Norčič Štamcar, Deputy Head of Delegation, Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia
  • Miroslav Petrašinović, Chairman of the City Assembly of Kragujevac, Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM)
  • Anna Magyar (HU/ECR), CoR Rapporteur on the 2021 Enlargement Package, Member of the County Council of Csongrád Megye

The committee, which meets twice a year, will discuss the role of local and regional authorities in Serbia's EU accession process as well as environment protection, climate action, and energy issues. The expansion to local authorities of TAIEX – the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument of the European Commission - will also be a focus of interest. A long-standing CoR request, the expanded programme was launched by the 1st Vice-President of the CoR, Mr Vasco Alves Cordeiro (PT/PES), on 16 November 2021.

The CoR works closely with the EU candidate countries in the Western Balkans. The CoR's statutory role in EU enlargement policy is based on Stabilization and Association Agreements between partner countries and the EU. Half of the JCC's members are local or regional representatives from Serbia, the other half are CoR members. There are two co-chairs, Prof. Franz Schausberger (AT/EPP), and the mayor of Niš, Ms Dragana Sotirovski. The CoR also has JCCs with Montenegro and North Macedonia, and in the future possibly with Albania too. Albania and the other countries  in the Western Balkans are currently covered by the CoR's Western Balkans Working Group.
