High Level Group Conference on European Democracy
 Download Agenda

Join us for this High Level Group Conference on European Democracy to debate and discuss how to revitalise and reinforce democracy across Europe.

The Conference on the Future of Europe is an opportunity to bring Europe closer to its citizens and to strengthen European democracy, notably the "European House of Democracy", with local and regional authorities as its foundations, the Member States as its walls, and the European Union as its protective roof.

The need to reinforce this unique European model of democracy has become more urgent in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the much-needed recovery, and the dual digital and climate transitions for a resilient future. In this context, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) has set up a High Level Group on European Democracy, chaired by President Emeritus of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, to stimulate discussions on innovative ways to reinforce the democratic legitimacy of the common "European House of Democracy" at all levels.

The High Level Group is expected to deliver a final report to the CoR ahead of the closing of the Conference on the Future of Europe, as a contribution to reflections on the strengthening of European democracy and the CoR's positioning.

These elements will be discussed in this Conference which will feature three panel debates with members of the High Level Group, MEPs, and members of the Conference on the Future of Europe, including questions from the audience.
