The CoR seeks to ensure that EU environment
policies take account of the needs of all types of communities both in urban
and in non-urban areas.
Some examples of the environmental issues that
are faced by small communities in the EU:
How can an urban neighbourhood near an airport
implement the EU noise policy?
How can a small island deal with waste
management?
How can a mountain village be involved in the
management of Natura 2000?
How can a rural hamlet deal with strong air
pollution originating from a nearby city?
How can a small community without elected
representatives be involved in environmental assessments?
How can a small community without a specific
municipality be involved in EU funded projects?
The CoR can find ways to highlight the importance
of environmental policy at this level in the activities of EU institutions and
networks and to promote best practices of sustainable small communities.
