Under
Chile's Presidency, the 25th Conference of the Parties (COP) of the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place
in Madrid from 2 to 13 December 2019.
As the EU's
Assembly of local and regional representatives, the European Committee of the
Regions will be present at COP25 and will actively advocate the achievements
and commitments of European cities and regions in the fight against global
warming.
The CoR
delegation to COP25 in Madrid will be composed of:
- Markku
Markkula (EPP/FI), CoR's First Vice-President

COP25 has
the goal to finalise the negotiations on the implementation rulebook of the
Paris climate agreement. In addition, higher climate ambition and commitments
are expected and much needed if we want to avoid the devastating impacts of
global warming.
