Green Deal Going Local: Green Deal screening of CoR members and YEPs
The European Green Deal is the package of measures ranging from ambitiously cutting greenhouse gas emissions, investing in cutting-edge research and innovation and preserving Europe's natural environment to making Europe a climate-resilient society. This strategy aims at mainstreaming climate and environmental policies in legislative measures, policy actions and funding mechanisms in order to stop the consequences of climate change.

However, if we want to ensure a sustainable, fair and healthy Europe for our citizens, it is essential to get everyone involved in climate action. The success of the Green Deal will largely depend on the capacity of local and regional administrators to implement policies and create frontrunner experiences in their areas. The Green Deal will also depend on the capacity of national governments and of EU institutions to fully understand the needs of Europe's regions and cities and correctly transpose them into legislation, financial management and policy strategies.

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is launching a survey because it acknowledges that local and regional authorities need to join forces and collaborate for a successful implementation of the Green Deal. Through its new "Green Deal Going Local" working group initiative, the CoR aims to place cities and regions at the core of the European Green Deal, especially in relation to a sustainable post-pandemic recovery.

The main aim of this survey is to gather information on members' and Young Elected Politicians' (YEPs) participation in relevant networks and initiatives, as well as to showcase relevant information regarding climate action and commitments. The final goal is to reinforce the leadership of CoR members and YEPs in the field of the Green Deal with strong and factual communication. The Green Deal Profiles will also allow the CoR to tailor Members' participation and increase synergies with other initiatives in which CoR members and YEPs are involved. Once completed, the Green Deal Profiles will be incorporated into the CoR's online communication tools and enrich the public profile of members.

The CoR wants to enhance the capacity of its members to become leaders in climate action and to effectively implement and make the most of the Green Deal in their areas. The answers to this survey, together with the associated call for Best Practices, will support the creation of networks and synergies among the members and YEPs and promote peer-to-peer exchanges to accelerate action on the ground.
