The Region of Extremadura, labelled European Entrepreneurial Region 2017, celebrated the 11th edition of the Foro Emprende, the regional entrepreneurial event of the year on 26 October 2017 in the historical city of Cáceres. The event offered a number of workshops, round tables and training sessions on topics as diverse as e-commerce, 3D printing or the access to finance, as well as networking and promotional opportunities, to more than 1000 registered participants.
Extremadura was awarded the EER label for 2017 alongside the regions of Lower Austria and Western Greece based on its comprehensive and creative business development action plan. "Extremadura is implementing an ambitious strategy to support passionate, inventive and strong-minded entrepreneurs across the whole of its extended territory. The mobile business support points guiding entrepreneurs in distant locations, the support being given throughout the whole business lifecycle as well as the efforts put into cutting red tape are just a few examples proving that the region is doing a great job making the life for its entrepreneurs easier", stated Christian Buchmann, former Chair of the CoR ECON commission and CoR Rapporteur on "Smart Regulation for SMEs", representing the Committee.
José Luis Navarro, the Regional Minister for Economy and Infrastructure, stressed that "the EER award works as a stimulus to those who already ventured into business, as well as to those who are considering an entrepreneurial career" and that "it proves that the regional administration is on the right track; it is not by coincidence that the entrepreneurial activity rose by 12,8% in 2016, much above the national average."
Every year, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) identifies and rewards three EU territories which show an outstanding and innovative entrepreneurial policy strategy, irrespective of their size, wealth and competences. The three most forward-thinking and promising visions with a credible implementation plan are granted the label “European Entrepreneurial Region” (EER) for the specific year.
