The seminar supported the preparation of the CoR opinion "Boosting start-ups and scale-ups in Europe: regional and local perspective" (rapporteur: Tadeusz Truskolaski, PL/EA) by initiating a discussion on the local and regional dimension of the Start-up and Scale-up Initiative.
At the same time, it aimed to encourage regions and cities to develop proactive strategies aimed at start-up and scale-up support and to explore how local and regional authorities could contribute to the implementation of the Start-up and Scale-up Initiative.
The seminar focused in particular on supporting businesses during the growth stage of their life-cycle. It brought together CoR Members, representatives of other EU institutions, practitioners from EER regions and other regions and cities, business associations, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders.
The objective of the seminar was to identify necessary framework conditions and existing good practices in start-up and scale-up support at local level, and to examine how the Start-up and Scale-up Initiative could contribute to further strengthening local and regional entrepreneurial ecosystems. At the same time, it also determined obstacles and gaps where further support is required, either as part of the roll-out of the Start-up and Scale-up Initiative or through additional actions.
