The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is currently drafting an opinion entitled "Effectively engaging local and regional authorities in the preparation of the Partnership Agreements and Operational Programmes for the 2021-2027 period". The rapporteur for this opinion is Mr Juraj Droba (SK/ECR), Chairman of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region.

European Commission experts and local and regional politicians will virtually gather to discuss challenges and opportunities linked to digital transition and connectivity for the cities and regions in Europe. This second meeting in 2021 will focus on how to measure digital transformation, including through the Digital Compass/Digital Decade initiative by the European Commission and the CoR-ESPON LORDI index, and on embedding these initiatives in the green and digital transformation at local level. 

The aim of this event is to engage Pomorskie Region's citizens - mainly youth and seniors as well as representatives of regional and local authorities - in a debate about Europe's present and future identity. The online civic debate will be an opportunity to share views and discuss today's European challenges, such as the community values crisis, disinformation (mainly online) posing a serious threat to democracy and also the ways to rebuild citizens' trust in the EU and bring it closer to their needs. 

The planned webinar, organised by the European Committee of the Regions together with and the European Parliament, European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) and the Austrian Institute for Federalism, aims to highlight the current challenges in relation to migration and integration policies in the European Union, and propose a solution in the form of multi-level governance with the theoretical backing of authors of the publication 'Migration and the European union: Multi-Level-Governance as a Solution' .

Event by the Łódź Region of Poland on "Entrepreneurship to meet the challenges of a modern economy", on 18/06/2021 - 11.00-12.30 

The 9th meeting of the COTER commission will take place online (via Interactio) on Tuesday 22 June 2021 from 11:00 to 16:30 (Brussels time). 

​​With the European Green Deal, the European Union committed to 'zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050, economic growth that is decoupled from resource use and no person and no place is left behind'. Cities and regions are crucial partners to deliver the European Green Deal. To create resonance and ownership among societies, the European Green Deal needs a local component, rooted at the governance level closest to the businesses and citizens. 

The webinar will look at the state of digital transformation in European regions and will explore ways to develop an enabling regional policy framework for a digital transition of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), showcasing some best practices and collaboration initiatives from the European Entrepreneurial Regions. 

The 8th SEDEC commission meeting (mandate VII) will take place on 23 June 2021 from 11:00 to 18:15 remotely via Interactio. 

The path towards a more energy efficient Europe starts at the local and regional level. Local and regional authorities play a key role for the success of the European Renovation Wave strategy. The European Committee of the Regions, with the adoption of the Opinion on the Renovation Wave, urges for the establishment of direct financing mechanisms for local and regional authorities to undertake renovation projects. Representatives of the European Committee of the Regions, the Covenant of Mayors Initiative, the European Investment Bank, the European Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and the European City Facility Initiative will debate and provide the participants of the YEPs Programme of the CoR with the key information, tools and financial support opportunities for local and regional authorities to reduce energy consumption and greenhouses emissions. 

This event is part of DG MOVE's official programme for the European Year of Rail 2021 and is supported by the COTER Commission of the European Committee of the Regions. ​​​It relates to the objectives of the Green Deal (decarbonisation of transport and promoting a modal shift to rail) and the promotion of social, economic and territorial cohesion. 

 

​The Members of the European Committee of the Regions will meet remotely for the 145th plenary session on 30 June and 1-2  July 2021.  

On 1 July, eight weeks after the conference's launch, Studio Europa Maastricht is organising this special edition of Workplace Europe in collaboration with the European Committee of the Regions. A high-level panel discussion will open the event, after which interactive sessions will be held. The ideas and insights collected will be shared with the Committee of the Regions, the organisers of the Conference on the Future of Europe and all participants.
