Briefing with High-Level Climate Champion Tomasz Chruszczow
Six months ahead of the UNFCCC COP24 in Katowice, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) invites you to take part in a policy briefing on the state of play of the climate negotiations and the progress made on the modalities and guidelines for the implementation of the Paris Agreement. The so-called “Paris rulebook” is to be finalised and adopted in Katowice. Discussions will also include the role of regions and cities as key non-state actors in the framework of the UNFCCC governance.
This event is designed for climate experts ad specialised press. It will be held two weeks ahead of the high-level political debate on climate governance that the CoR will host during its plenary session 4-5 July. EU's assembly of cities and regions will also adopt its opinion on COP24 during the July plenary.
Tomasz Chruszczow, High-Level Climate Champion and Special Envoy for Environment of the Polish Government will provide first-hand insights on the current state of play of the climate negotiations and the potential bottlenecks Parties are facing to reach an agreement on the implementation of the Paris agreement, due in Katowice.
Yvon Slingenberg, Director for International and Mainstreaming and Policy Coordination, DG Climate Action, European Commission, will share the concerns and expectations of the EU delegation on COP24 and the implementation of the Paris agreement.
