Regions and cities against COVID-19

As the voice of European regions and cities, the CoR is at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus since its outbreak in Europe and subsequent countries lockdown early March. The CoR is fully involved in helping to shape the EU's response to the pandemic.

Explore our Covid-19 exchange platform and see how your city/region/country is contributing to Europe's efforts to stop the virus.

Also worthy of note, a declaration on COVID-19 Response was adopted by the CoR on 8 May.

CoR at work

Despite the sudden coronavirus disruption, the CoR continues doing its best to bring Europe to the EU citizens. See how we are doing this by watching our ANIMATION video

The CoR is the voice of regions and cities in the European Union (EU) and it was created in 1994 – meaning it's 25 year-old (or -young!) – to advise the EU on new laws that have an impact on regions and cities (70% of all legislation).

Regions and cities at the stage
Regions and cities are the core of our business. This is how relevant they are to us.

Our members at your service

Our members are your mayors or the presidents of the regions you come from. They've been elected at local or regional level and work to bridge the gap between EU citizens and the EU institutions. They bring citizens' concerns to the political table, debate legislation in plenary sessions and influence the EU decision making-process.

Have a look at our "What does Europe represent for me" video series.

YEP programme & community – join now!

The European Committee of the Regions' young elected politicians (YEPs) programme reaches out to future European leaders. The programme has successfully connected hundreds of YEPs with one another and with their counterparts at the CoR. If you are a young elected politician, eager to network and exchange and to understand the opportunities the European Union offers regions and cities, this programme is for you. Apply to our 2020 annual call!

If you are selected, you will also gain access to YEPCommunity.eu, our brand new exclusive online networking tool.

THE meeting place
We've already mentioned some events organised by CoR. We have to say the CoR is not only a place where plenary sessions happen. It's THE meeting place place in Brussels for Europe's regions and cities.

You might have already heard of our annual meeting European Week of Regions and Cities, the European Entrepreneurial Region, the European Summit of Regions and Cities, or the RegHub – Regional hubs project. Indeed, the word "region(s)" is mentioned a lot.

We have selected some pictures to give you a taste of how much goes on in here – see gallery below.

Play the QUIZ on social media
Now that you know more about the CoR, it's time to play a quiz! Head over to our Instagram account on 8 and 9 May to test your knowledge, or follow our #EuropeDay updates on FacebookTwitter, and LinkedIn.

We hope to have answered your questions and to be able to welcome you at CoR premises soon.

For now, stay safe, stay home.
