The workshop will be an opportunity to look into the growing concern about the local and regional impact of international trade and globalisation as well as the evidence that some local economies and communities lack resilience in the face of this pressure. Issues that will be explored include the possible links between trade, industry specialisation, regional competitiveness and regional inequalities.
After the presentation of the main findings of the study on Interactions between Trade, Investment and Trends in the EU Industry: EU regions in international trade conducted by the European Parliamentary Research Service, a panel debate will focus on the possible avenues for making trade and globalisation work as an engine for regional growth, employment and industrial renewal.
