The increasing demands from a growing global population for
food, feed, bioenergy, timber and other commodities are the main drivers of
deforestation. In our increasingly interconnected and globalised world, our
rate of consumption, individually and locally, has an impact at the other side
of the globe. A forest area measuring 1.3million square kilometers was lost
between 1990 and 2016. This is the equivalent of 800 football fields of forest
being lost by the hour, every day of the year!
The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is currently
drafting an opinion on "Stepping up EU Action to Protect and Restore the
World’s Forests". The rapporteur of the opinion, Mr. Marco Dus (IT/PES),
Member of Vittorio Veneto Municipal Council, Province of Treviso, together with
his expert Ms Lisa Pizzol, would be happy to have your view on this important
matter.
The consultation will take place on:
28 November 2019 between 13:00 and 15:00
in the Committee of the Regions building
(Rue Belliard 99-101,
B-1040 Brussels)
Room JDE 53
registration is open until 26 November 1 a.m
