CoR Bureau appoints Mr Blížkovský as new Secretary-General  

​​​The Bureau of the European Committee of the Regions on 7 October 2019 appointed Dr Petr BLÍŽKOVSKÝ as the new Secretary-General of the CoR, for a term of five years.

A Czech national, Dr. Blížkovský has served since 2004 as a Director in the Secretariat-General of the Council of the European Union, initially in charge for economic and regional affairs, an later also for social policy. He assumed responsibility in 2013 for rural development, agricultural structures, forest, phytosanitary and food safety, before – in 2016 – becoming director for agriculture and social policy.

Prior to the Czech Republic's accession to the European Union, Dr. Blížkovský was the EU director in the Czech foreign ministry and a member of the state committees for regional development and for the community support framework. His career includes stints in the private offices of the Deputy Prime Minister and Agriculture Minister, as well as in the Czech Republic's permanent mission to the EU.

Before entering the Czech service, he was a member of Řečkovice and Brno city councils, as well as a university lecturer.

An agricultural specialist by background, Dr. Blížkovský gained a PhD in Economics and Management from Brno's Mendel University, later studying at the École Nationale d'Administration, Paris.
