Stakeholder consultation "The challenges of metropolitan regions and their position in the future Cohesion policy post 2020"

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) has decided to prepare an opinion on "The challenges of metropolitan regions and their position in the future Cohesion Policy post 2020".

Metropolitan regions (MRs) are often economic centres of growth, providing opportunities for study, research, innovation and employment, which naturally attract people. But they have also to cope with specific challenges associated with transport, environment and social inclusion as well as ever increasing demand for services coupled with limited financial resources, which has a significant impact on the population's overall quality of life.

The main objectives of this opinion are to bring a better recognition of the challenges of the metropolitan regions, of their contribution to the cohesion policy and territorial cohesion as well as to recommend measures to support them while paying attention to urban-rural links.

Mr Juraj DROBA (SK/ECR), Chairman of Bratislava Self-Governing Region and rapporteur for this opinion, would like to meet representatives of local and regional associations and other stakeholders for a consultation and an exchange of views on these issues.

The consultation meeting will take place on Tuesday 9 July 2019, from 11:00 to 12:30 in the European Committee of the Regions building (Rue Belliard 99-101, 1040 Brussels), room JDE 51, in English (please note that no interpretation will be provided).

In addition, if you have any written comments or position papers relevant to the subject, you are kindly invited to send them by email to coter@cor.europa.eu.
