This opinion will reflect the CoR's position on the urgency to tackle biodiversity loss, especially by restoring degraded ecosystems and habitats. The European Commission proposal shows a clear ambition to drive large-scale nature restoration for a long term and sustained nature recovery across land, river and sea territories. The opinion would highlight the essential contribution of local and regional governments to achieve current and future biodiversity targets, as well as the multiple benefits of biodiversity to a range of objectives that particularly matter at subnational level.
