In remembrance of the Brussels attacks 22 March 2016: together, united in solidarity.
22 March 2016.  Shortly after 8am I was mortified to hear that a member of my own team was at that moment in Zaventem airport.  He was lying on the floor under a table trying to shield himself from the chaos around him. Our colleague, friend, husband and father was not hurt and thankfully is still with us today.

Like him, there were hundreds of other innocent people: some scared, some injured, some others, sadly, dead. That is why today we remember the barbaric attacks of 22 March 2016 in Brussels. Those who did this crime took 32 lives and injuring more than 300. Innocent people who travelled here from as far away as Peru, Columbia and the United States.

The loss of every life in this world hurts and we must remember that terrorism only holds power through its ability to incite fear.

A year on we have not become prisoner to this attack of fear. And we will never surrender to fear. Our inner strength means that we continue to rise each day. To go to work and live our daily lives. This is a clear signal: we are not afraid and will continue to live in peace. No act of violence will succeed in striking terror into our lives! Our values of peace, solidarity, freedom and diversity will always prevail.
We stand united with communities not only in Belgium but also across the world. Our thoughts and prayers to every family, country and community affected.
Today, we stand together in respect of the differences of opinions, faiths and nationalities that bind us, not divide us.
