The national delegations are made up of a number of members from each of the 28 EU countries. They reflect the overall political, geographical and local/regional balance of each Member State.
Each national government proposes its regional and local representatives (full members and alternates) who are then approved by the Council of the EU.
Together they form the 350-member CoR assembly which gathers in Brussels a few times a year to discuss political priorities and adopt opinions on EU legislation.
Operating mode
Each national delegation elects a chairman and appoints a coordinator. The coordinators' role is to liaise between the CoR administration and the members of their national delegation.
The Committee of the Regions offers the following services to national delegations:
- use of its Registry, which manages procedural matters and infrastructure for members;
- priority cooperation with the coordinators of other national delegations;
- organisation of meetings before or during the plenary sessions and use of meeting rooms.
